WALPOLE → DENMARK
Brief overview
A 159 km section of extraordinary contrast — from the lush Frankland River Karri and Tingle forest near Walpole, past the Valley of the Giants, along a spectacular coastal cycling path to internationally famous Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks, through rolling farmland and Karri forest to Denmark. One of the most scenically diverse sections of the entire trail.

Description of the Trail
WARNING: Before riding this section, check the DBCA Alerts website to ensure Sappers Bridge is not impassable due to flooding.
This bridge, 19 km east of Walpole, is marked on the app map.
From Walpole, the flat trail skirts the pretty Nornalup Inlet as it leaves town.
It then snakes along the Frankland River on gravel doubletrack through lush Karri and Tingle Forest with frequent beautiful river vistas and giant old trees.
The trail crosses the Frankland River over Sappers Bridge about 19 km from Walpole — check flood status before departure.
A few hundred metres later, 10 km of new singletrack opened in June 2025 climbs gently through the forest with winding trail and numerous switchbacks.
Shortly after, the turn-off to the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk appears.
About 3 km east of the Valley of the Giants, the trail turns north — the forest gets drier and provides less shade, and the track gets sandy approaching Booner Mundak Hut (about 55 km from Walpole).
Easy mountain biking trails through Walpole-Nornalup National Park offer an alternative to the main trail in this section — gentle singletrack through incredible old-growth Tingle and Karri forest.
A couple of kilometres after Booner Mundak Hut, the trail turns east onto a firm wide quiet gravel road for about 15 km to Jinung Beigabup Hut.
This can be monotonous, with little shade and very dry and hot in summer, though wildflowers are beautiful in season.
Seventeen kilometres east of Booner Mundak Hut, the trail crosses the Kent River on a small suspension bridge — a little green oasis with an inviting river pool for swimmers.
Heading toward Denmark, scenery improves as rolling green farmland with patches of lush Karri Forest appears about 15 km before Jinung Beigabup Hut.
A singletrack climb through forest leads to the hut in a clearing surrounded by stunning young straight Karri trees — possibly the prettiest hut on the entire trail.
From Jinung Beigabup Hut, the trail drops through hilly farmland to the coast at Greens Pool — an internationally known attraction with turquoise waters, pristine white sandy beach and giant granite boulders protecting it from the Southern Ocean.
Swim here!
Elephant Rocks is equally beautiful, a hundred metres east.
From Elephant Rocks, a paved walking and cycling path winds through dunes above the dramatic coastline — take your time here!
Pass Ocean Beach (visit the lookout — ideal swim on calm days), then follow a cycle path along Wilson Inlet into Denmark.

Real Stories from travelers
“We rode the Munda Biddi end-to-end over 16 days on the hardtails with full camping gear. It was raw, challenging and absolutely incredible. Waking up in the forest every morning, riding through endless jarrah trees and feeling completely disconnected from everything — that’s what made it special. The bikes were perfectly set up for bikepacking and we felt fully self-sufficient the whole way.”
“I chose the hardtail expedition setup with camping gear and it was the best decision. Everything was dialled — bags, gear, bike. Long days, sometimes tough, but the freedom you get riding fully self-supported is unreal. If you’re looking for a real adventure, this is it.”
“We did a 7-day section with the electric bikes — honestly the perfect balance. You still get the full Munda Biddi experience, but without carrying gear. The e-bikes made longer distances super enjoyable and arriving at a proper bed each evening was a game changer.”
“I wasn’t sure I could handle multiple days in a row, but the e-bike setup made it completely doable. Great distances, amazing scenery, and no stress about logistics. Everything was planned and smooth from start to finish.”
“We started in Dwellingup and finished in Nannup with the bike delivery and pickup organised — super easy. Not having to worry about transport made a huge difference. We just focused on riding and enjoying the trail.”
“The shuttle option was perfect. We got dropped right at the trailhead and picked up at the end — no hassle, no planning stress. It made the whole experience feel seamless and way more enjoyable.”
