MUNDARING → JARRAHDALE
Brief overview
The opening section of the Munda Biddi Trail — 101 km from Mundaring through the Kalamunda mountain biking network, the Helena River valley, and varied bush to Jarrahdale. Features one of the longest climbs on the entire trail and a newly opened section to Jarrahdale completed in June 2025.

Description of the Trail
Leaving Mundaring, the first 10 km descends on singletrack to the Helena River — good fun and very pretty.
You'll regain the lost elevation over the next 10 km, making the northern 20 km the most significant climbing of this section and one of the longest hills found along the entire Munda Biddi Trail.
From the top of the climb out of the Helena River valley, singletrack wanders through the Kalamunda mountain biking trail network in open Jarrah forest — relatively flat with a generally firm surface.
The 20 km of double track north of Carinyah Hut has frequent sections of soft pea gravel, particularly in drier summer months — wide tyres are a significant advantage here.
This can be some of the least pleasant cycling of the entire Munda Biddi Trail if you have narrow tyres.
Between Carinyah and Wungong Huts, the trail follows firmer double track with an enjoyable singletrack section about two thirds of the way to Wungong Hut.
Between Wungong Hut and Jarrahdale, the route follows a new section opened in October 2023 through beautiful and varied bush — slow but fun for mountain bikers.
A combination of double and singletrack with mostly gentle grades leads to the most prominent hill 12 km from Jarrahdale.
The last 11 km gently descend to Jarrahdale on a new trail section opened in June 2025.
The Mundaring Hotel sits across the road from the northern terminus — a perfect place to celebrate.
Restaurants and food shops are a few hundred metres further north.

Real Stories from travelers
“We rode the Munda Biddi end-to-end over 16 days on the hardtails with full camping gear. It was raw, challenging and absolutely incredible. Waking up in the forest every morning, riding through endless jarrah trees and feeling completely disconnected from everything — that’s what made it special. The bikes were perfectly set up for bikepacking and we felt fully self-sufficient the whole way.”
“I chose the hardtail expedition setup with camping gear and it was the best decision. Everything was dialled — bags, gear, bike. Long days, sometimes tough, but the freedom you get riding fully self-supported is unreal. If you’re looking for a real adventure, this is it.”
“We did a 7-day section with the electric bikes — honestly the perfect balance. You still get the full Munda Biddi experience, but without carrying gear. The e-bikes made longer distances super enjoyable and arriving at a proper bed each evening was a game changer.”
“I wasn’t sure I could handle multiple days in a row, but the e-bike setup made it completely doable. Great distances, amazing scenery, and no stress about logistics. Everything was planned and smooth from start to finish.”
“We started in Dwellingup and finished in Nannup with the bike delivery and pickup organised — super easy. Not having to worry about transport made a huge difference. We just focused on riding and enjoying the trail.”
“The shuttle option was perfect. We got dropped right at the trailhead and picked up at the end — no hassle, no planning stress. It made the whole experience feel seamless and way more enjoyable.”
